Storytime & Craft: Paper Stars

This is a fun and simple craft that only takes a few materials and a bit of time.

Materials:

  • a piece of lightweight paper (8.5×11)
  • ruler
  • pencil or pen
  • scissors

Instructions:

Step 1: Use the ruler to draw a straight line down the long side of your paper, about 3cm away from the edge. Cut the strip out. Now you’re ready!

Step 2: Take the top of your strip of paper and tuck it behind the rest of the strip about a quarter of the way down. The longer end should be above the shorter end and it will creates a loop, like in the picture below.

Step 2: Now tie your shorter end into the loop and fold the leftover end into the fold made on the back.

Step 3: Take the longer end and roll it along the shape you just made, making sure you fold the paper onto each side of the shape and do not press down on it.

Step 4: You should have a five sided shape now. Fold the last bit of the remaining end into one of the folds you’ve created. If it is too long for that, but too short to roll one more time, you can trim it so you can fold it into the star.

Step 5: Pinch each side of the star so it puffs up and there you are!
