Storytime & Craft: Yarn Ornaments

Merry Christmas! We have a special Storytime & Craft for you today. Let’s create some easy homemade Christmas tree ornaments using scrap materials!

  • Recycled Cardboard
  • Ruler (optional-used for making triangles)
  • Yarn (green and brown, or any other)
  • Elmer’s Glue
  • Pom Poms (optional)
  • Pipe Cleaner (optional)

Step 1:  Cut shapes out of your recycled cardboard (triangles for the tree/reindeer, circle for the wreath).  Find the colour of yarn you would like for your projects and cut off a piece about a metre in length.

Step 2:  Decorate your shapes by colouring the cardboard, then on one side of the shape add glue. Begin wrapping the yarn all around the shapes.

Step 3:  Finish off the project by adding pompoms, coloured paper pieces, pipe cleaner, googly eyes etc. to decorate your ornament. Hot glue gun, or tie an additional piece of yarn about 10 inches in length for hanging your ornament.

Bonus Activity: Make 10 of the ornaments, have someone hide them on the tree. Take some time finding the newly hung ornaments on your tree together!
