Library Reopening Plan

We have missed you! Read below for a message from our Chief Librarian on timelines and plans for reopening our libraries with limited services.

As we enter our next phase of re-opening at Thompson-Nicola Regional Library, welcoming back our patrons and staff to the workplace, safety remains our top priority.

Since the library system’s closure in mid-March, we have focused on improving access to digital collections, providing a whole host of regular virtual programs, creating superb content through the library’s blog, initiated our Library Takeout service, and resumed service to mobile library and Kamloops home service patrons.  These have been major changes that no doubt will remain with us as we work to continuously engage the people of our region.

As the COVID-19 situation within the TNRD continues to improve, we will move forward to the next phase of re-opening bringing back more services to patrons across the regional district.

Beginning mid-July to late July, we will begin opening our libraries offering limited services with strict health and safety measures in place. We will enable pick up of holds, access to our physical collections in short visits, and schedule time for patrons to use public computers.  We will also set aside unimpeded time for our seniors and our most vulnerable patrons.

To ensure the ongoing health and safety of our patrons and staff, we are encouraging short visits to our spaces. We are not yet able to invite you to stay for long periods of time to read books and newspapers, study, or use our WiFi inside.  In-person programs for children, teens, and adults will still be suspended, while our digital programming and additional digital support will continue through the summer (with outdoor ‘safe programming’ in select locations on the horizon!).

Library Takeout service will continue – as it’s become very popular however is expected to lessen as hold pickups for patrons are enabled.

In the weeks leading up to this next phase of opening, we will rearrange our spaces to ensure social distancing practices, expand our cleaning protocols, train everyone, and do as much as we can to make visits to TNRL as safe and convenient as possible.  As we get closer to our target re-opening dates in mid-July, we will be posting more information on our website and communicating through all channels available to us.

Thank you for your patience and continued support of the TNRL. Your positive comments and understanding have been a great support to our staff, who are looking forward to getting back to the important work of delivering library services to you.
