Instructions:

Step 1: Print off the rhyme game sorting printable. Use the print outs with the question marks as your “game board” so that you have one picture/word with a question mark below it.

Step 2: Cut up the “game piece” cards so each one is separate from one another.

Step 3: Grab your first game card (example “Mouse”). The object of the game is to find it’s matching rhyming counterpart, so go through the game boards until you find the item that sounds similar to the word “Mouse” (house).

Theme: Dinosaurs
Activity: Dinosaur Bones
Extra Story: “All Aboard the Dinotrain” by Deb Lund found on Tumblebooks

Materials:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • Bowl
  • Parchment paper
  • Pan
  • Paint

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 325 degrees

Step 2: In a bowl, mix together 1 cup of salt with 2 cups of flour. Once it’s well blended, poor in 1 cup of water. Mix until the dough all comes together.

Step 3: Have the children create dinosaur bones out of the salt dough. You can show them images of dinosaur bones or let them create freely! Try to make each bone roughly 1 inch thick (or under).

Step 4: Once they have finished creating, it will be time to bake the bones! Bake them for 30 minutes (if they are thicker than 1 inch they may need more time baking).

Step 5: Let the bones cool completely before our next step. While waiting, set your creative space up with paint, paint brushes, and anything else you might need to get messy!

Step 6: Let the kids paint their dinosaur bones!

Pro tip: Wanting more from this activity? Bring them to your next beach adventure or out to your sandbox to bury the bones in the dry sand! Bring along brushes and shovels to dig up your bones!
